Medical Affairs
Since January 1, 2013, inmates have been included in the National Health Insurance program. Our facility provides outpatient medical services under the program through institutions such as Pingtung Christian Hospital, Ping An Psychiatric Hospital, Youmei Dental Clinic, and Tiantian Dental Clinic.
From Monday to Friday, both morning and afternoon sessions are available. Youmei and Tiantian Dental Clinics provide dental treatment for inmates, while Ping An Psychiatric Hospital offers mental health care for inmates with physical and psychological disabilities. Pingtung Christian Hospital dispatches specialists in various fields, including family medicine, general internal medicine, pulmonology, gastroenterology, cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, colorectal surgery, metabolism, and infectious diseases, to conduct in-prison consultations, ensuring the health of the inmates.
The facility is equipped with two medical consultation rooms and a dedicated dental treatment room. The consultation rooms are furnished with modern medical equipment, including a 12-lead electrocardiograph, an automatic blood pressure monitor, a forehead thermometer, a color abdominal ultrasound machine, an automatic height and weight measuring device, a fully automated high-pressure sterilizer, an oxygen generator, and emergency respiratory equipment. These resources assist in-prison physicians in providing accurate and timely diagnoses and treatments, enhancing the overall quality of medical care within the facility.
Preventive Medicine
- Newly admitted inmates undergo health examinations. If any diseases are detected, they receive treatment and follow-up care, with regular annual health assessments.
- To prevent the spread of tuberculosis within the prison, all newly admitted inmates must undergo chest X-ray screening, and an annual chest X-ray examination is conducted for all inmates.
- Conduct blood screening for hepatitis A, sexually transmitted diseases, and HIV.
- Provide oral cancer screenings and vaccinations for influenza and COVID-19.
- Regularly offer vision tests and prescription eyeglasses to inmates for eye health maintenance.
- Maintain sanitation and disinfection both inside and outside the facility to prevent the intrusion of infectious diseases.
- Conduct urine drug tests for newly admitted inmates, those temporarily released for court appearances or family visits, and randomly test inmates periodically to effectively deter drug inflow.
- In line with national policies, implement hepatitis C and latent tuberculosis screening and treatment programs in correctional facilities to safeguard inmate health and reduce transmission risks.
Health Education Propaganda
- Regularly provide skincare treatment, HIV case counseling for AIDS prevention, tuberculosis control, hepatitis and intestinal infectious disease prevention, and dengue fever awareness campaigns.
- To enhance medical knowledge among correctional staff and improve inmate healthcare, conduct periodic awareness programs on tobacco hazard prevention, suicide prevention, drug addiction treatment, and medication safety.
- Regularly conduct emergency first aid training for facility staff and CPR training for inmates.
