In general, the Pingtung Prison of the Corrections Department of the Ministry of Justice accommodates male recidivist inmates. The standard is averaged at 0.7 ping per one inmate and the current approved capacity is 2,209 inmates (including 64 inmates in the external sub-prison camp). In order to achieve the goal of “providing people with a safe, secure, and peaceful living space; comprehensively enhancing judicial credibility and increasing public trust in justice” which is pursued by all colleagues of the Ministry of justice, the supervision method of this Prison is in accordance with the instructions and requirements of all levels of officers in the Department of Corrections of the Ministry of Justice. The Prison implements the “four aims and three equal emphases” and relevant correction methods. The four aims are humanization, transparency, rationalization, and schooling. The three equal emphases are education with equal emphasis on guarding and controlling, treatment with equal emphasis on punishment, and skill training with equal emphasis on work. It is our goal that the inmates can repent and improve as soon as possible, and contribute their own efforts after returning to society.
